Oracle Corp. Monday announced a new brand name for its middleware as well as a road map for certifying PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards applications with this middleware offering.

The Redwood Shores, Calif., company minted its middleware platform “Oracle Fusion Middleware,” and it includes the Oracle Application Server 10g application development tools and J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) Application Server; Web services infrastructure; ESBs (enterprise service buses) and integration server; business process management and activity monitoring; business intelligence tools; security and identity management; enterprise portals; Oracles data hubs; and the Oracle Collaboration Suite, the company said.

In addition, Oracle plans to certify PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards applications with the Oracle Fusion Middleware platform this quarter and next quarter, respectively, the company said.

Robert Shimp, vice president of technology at Oracle, said users of those environments “will have the ability to run their applications with a common set of services.”

Meanwhile, later this week Oracle plans to announce that Deutsche Post World Net, of Bonn, Germany, a leading logistics and transport provider, will use the Oracle Application Server 10g as the foundation for its IT infrastructure. Deutsche Post will build an advanced ESB using Oracle Application Server 10g, Oracle officials said.

Oracle officials pointed to the companys adherence to JSR (Java Service Request) 208, also known as Java Business Integration, as being a key part of this effort.

“We intend to become the leading company in mail, parcel, express and logistics worldwide,” said Michael Herr, senior director of IT and head of the Service Orientated Platform Group at Deutsche Post, in a statement.

“To have a service-oriented platform into which we can very easily plug both newly developed and existing IT systems, combined with those resulting from mergers and acquisitions, is a very attractive value proposition. Our use of Oracle technology supports our strategic decision to take a best-of-breed approach to technology deployment and helps ensure that the applications and systems we select to best operate our business will work together.”
