Aiming for customers who need room to write, Gateway last week introduced a convertible tablet/notebook PC with a 14-inch-wide screen display, adding 25 percent more pixels than previous models.

The notebook operates on Microsofts Windows XP Tablet edition as well as Microsofts OneNote file-sharing software. The system runs the Intel 915 chip sets with PCI Express architecture and dual-channel DDR2 (double data rate 2) memory support. It uses either an Intel Celeron M processor or an Intel Pentium M Centrino chip set, which supports Wi-Fi.

The new notebook comes in two models: the Gateway M280, for enterprise, government and education customers, and the S-7200C, for small-business customers that may not have an in-house IT staff. The M280 features a theft protection system that uses TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 1.2.

Pricing depends on configuration.
