Mitel, which makes software for real-time enterprise, cloud and mobile communications, announced a partnership earlier this week with software-defined wireless-area networks provider VeloCloud around the new MiCloud Edge.

MiCloud Edge is a software package that runs on VeloCloud’s SD-WAN software. MiCloud Edge uses automation and intelligent routing to improve the performance and reliability of enterprise voice and video communication by optimizing bandwidth and instantly steering traffic toward the highest-performing network paths.

As enterprises continue to expand their use of unified communications applications, bandwidth resources are becoming a major drag on performance and service quality, especially in smaller branch offices. Through the partnership with VeloCloud, Mitel has helped solve this problem by utilizing SD-WAN technology, intelligent routing and cloud-based control of high-priority applications.

SD-WAN enables businesses to prioritize their applications and instantaneously detect the highest quality connectivity path.

MiCloud Edge also makes network management easy, even for companies with multiple locations, the company said. New offices or branches can be mobilized within minutes. Simplified configuration options then monitor and control them from a centralized, cloud-based location.

Compared with traditional circuits, which require onsite maintenance, MiCloud Edge further offers cost savings by minimizing the need for IT staff at each office and allowing most companies to scale back the use of multiprotocol label switching and other expensive circuits.

MiCloud Edge is currently available in North America. Go here for more information.
