The market for tablet computers continues to expand with Fujitsu’s Stylistic Q702 device, a business hybrid tablet that incorporates the DuoSense fourth-generation (G4) product line of touch technology by N-trig, creators of the DuoSense pen and multi-touch user interface. Designed for use with Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system, which debuts in October, the versatile device can be used as a tablet, and also features an attachable keyboard docking station for transformation into a notebook-style computer.

The company claims the Stylistic Q702 is the first tablet on the market to use the G4 DuoSense solution, which features an active pen and multi-touch capabilities on the same touch sensor. N-trig’s active pen is designed to enable content creation in a mobile environment, conduct on-screen editing, precise drawing and designing, and document-signing and long-distance collaboration.

“Our new active pen combines the comfort and familiarity of writing on paper with the convenience and portability of mobile computing,” Gary Baum, assistant vice president of product marketing at N-trig, said in prepared remarks. “For this reason, it is a perfect match for the Stylistic Q702, which offers an unprecedented mix of mobility and productivity for the enterprise.”

Additional features of the tablet include a 11.6-inch high-definition display, with a 10-finger multi-touch user interface. The newly upgraded active pen includes a tip design that provides improved accuracy required for handwriting recognition, together with palm rejection technology that enables a natural pen-on-paper handwriting experience. In addition, the latest generation of the DuoSense solution is designed to provide increased processing power and deliver a faster, more responsive user interface, according to a N-trig release.

The tablet’s optional keyboard dock, which transforms the device into a notebook, includes WLAN, USB and VGA connectivity, as well as an additional battery. The Stylistic Q702, weighing approximately 1.88 pounds, is powered by a third-generation Intel Core i3 or i5 processor and comes with a biometric fingerprint sensor, Computrace support, hard-disk-drive and BIOS password protection, embedded Trusted Platform Module (TPM), Intel Anti-Theft Technology and optional Intel vPro technology.

“We created this innovative form factor in response to both market demand and our observations of how mobile devices are used in the workplace,” Paul Moore, vice president of product marketing and development at Fujitsu America, said in a press statement. “By combining the accuracy, precision and natural feel of the Duosense active pen with the benefits of a full keyboard, the Stylistic Q702 enables a level of content creation unmatched by any other device on the market.”
