Hewlett-Packard is pushing forward its converged networking capabilities with new ProCurve wired and wireless offerings that make it easier for businesses to deploy IP-based services.

The HP ProCurve products-an access device and two controllers-let businesses bring together centralized network operations via the access device, which is installed into a standard wall socket.

The products are being announced June 1.

The products are designed to simplify the deployment and management of their IP services, said Roger Sands, director of worldwide mobility solutions for HP ProCurve.

“These converged network offerings extend HP ProCurve’s product portfolio into a new category of innovative network edge products that help customers reduce the complexity of installing and managing their wired and wireless network services,” Sands said in a statement.

The MSM317 Access Device brings together an 802.11b/g wireless access point and a four-port wired Ethernet switch, and can be centrally managed by any MultiService Mobility controller from HP ProCurve. It also supports the growing PoE (Power over Ethernet) technology.

Two new controllers offer businesses greater flexibility in managing both their wireless and wired networks, according to HP ProCurve officials.

The MSM765 controller can be physically integrated into ProCurve 5400 and 8200 series switches. The MSM760 is a stand-alone device.

In addition to the appliances, HP ProCurve officials also enhanced its Mobility Manager 3.0 software with automatic update capabilities. The feature can automatically detect and configure all wireless access points and controllers that are on the network.

Mobility Manager 3.0 is part of HP ProCurve’s Manager Plus 3.0 management platform, which is designed to give IT administrators an easier and less complex way to lay out, configure and monitor wireless and wired networks.

The new access device and wireless controllers are available now, starting at $349.
