Gateway and MPC Computers are rolling out servers powered by Intels 64-bit-enabled Xeon processors.

Gateway this week is launching its four-way 9715 system, aimed at the education and government markets, as well as at midsize and large companies, company officials said. It is also being offered as an alternative to blade servers, they said.

The server packs as much as 32GB of DDR2 (double data rate 2) memory, dual integrated Gigabit Ethernet NICs (network interface cards), integrated dual-channel Ultra320 SCSI capabilities and Fibre Channel options. The 6U (10.5-inch) server can be converted to a tower system.

In addition, Gateway is rolling out two new storage servers, the 9315 and 9415 NAS (network-attached storage) systems.

For its part, MPC last week unveiled the NetFrame 1620 and 2620 servers, two-way systems for the federal government and small and midsize businesses.

The 1U (1.75-inch) 1620 and 2U (3.5-inch) 2620 feature PCI Express, new I/O technology in the Intel chip sets that offers more than 3.5 times the bandwidth of PCI, MPC officials said.

Included with the servers is MPCs Integrated Server Management software, a Web-based offering that includes single-console control, monitoring and alerting capabilities, security features, and diagnostics.
