Phoenix Technologies has launched the first of its Core Managed Environment (cME) products, the first of the companys steps toward trusted computing.

In September, Phoenix began shopping its trusted BIOS software to OEMs, which the BIOS provider will apparently provide to Microsoft as part of a deal announced in October. Now, Phoenix has begun shopping the first of its cME products to notebook OEMs; IBM is a likely potential customer.

The Phoenix cME TrustedCore NB is being currently marketed to notebook OEMs and ODMs, including Wistron and Compal. Early next year, Phoenix will introduce versions of the software designed for servers, desktop PCs, embedded systems, and even server blades, according to Timothy Eades, senior vice president of corporate marketing for Phoenix.

Phoenix designed the software for notebooks first, as more and more corporate users are taking their work on the road. “Some of these guys travel like lunatics, taking their work on the road three or more times per week,” Eades said. “We want to make them the trusted endpoint of the network.”
