F-Secure is releasing its Internet Security 2008 product with new parental controls, improved anti-phishing features and a free trial version of anti-virus software for mobile devices.

With Internet Security 2008, released Sept. 3, F-Secure officials said they have improved the detection and scanning performance of phishing mail, as well as added a plug-in to allow users to configure security from the control panel in Windows Vista. Also, whitelisting is now possible so parents can define exactly where a child may surf on the Internet, and four new categories have been added that can be blocked: violence, travel, dating and sports.

“The anti-phishing engine has been upgraded to support Windows Mail [Windows Vista] and automates the creation of appropriate rules for moving spam and phishing e-mails to their respective e-mail client folders for processing,” said Tony Magallanez, systems engineer for F-Secure.

The 30-day trial version of F-Secures smartphone anti-virus product stops malware such as Bluetooth viruses to MMS words, includes a firewall and monitors potential virus entry points. In addition, it offers automatic anti-virus updates from F-Secure Security Labs.

“Cell phones have evolved into bona fide PCs—enabling users to download programs and share software—and as such require the same attention to security that PCs receive,” Magallanez said. “Mobile malware can cause unwanted billing, delete valuable information on the device or make the phone unusable.”

The software includes a 12-month subscription to a fully automated and continuous update service from F-Secure Security Labs and is available through the F-Secure online store and to resellers and retailers.
