International and multichannel payment solutions specialist Adyen announced the launch of its Easy Encryption solution, which is designed to help merchants offer end-to-end security for their customers worldwide.

Easy Encryption can be used for payment checkout on all desktop and mobile devices, and caters to particular demand for encrypted payment capability over native mobile apps though a simple library integration.

The platform enables merchants from all around the world to use their own payment pages to connect with Adyen’s Payment Platform and accept card payments in 187 currencies as well as a large number of alternative payment methods.

“With Adyen’s Global Card Encryption, security-conscious merchants finally have a payments solution that protects their customers’ financial data across all device types, reduces costs and security risks, and preserves the unique shopping experience they’ve created for their customers,” Roelant Prins, CCO of Adyen, said in a statement. “At the same time, it gives them access to Adyen’s multichannel payments platform and global reach. Combined, Adyen’s payment solutions give merchants everything they need to grow, expand and protect their business, all from a single solutions provider.”

The platform encrypts the customer’s payment data in the Web browser or app and the data remains encrypted until it reaches Adyen’s servers.

Throughout this process, the customer’s data is immune to security threats. The Adyen solution takes on the role of managing cardholder data and encryption, removing the need for the payment to be routed through the merchant’s server and in theory working to reduce the costs involved with meeting and monitoring Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance.

Digital measurement company comScore recently announced that mobile commerce spending on smartphones and tablets in the United States increased $5.8 billion in the third quarter, representing a 26 percent increase over the same period last year.

Despite mobile malware concerns, many plan to use their mobile phones for holiday shopping, with consumers from wealthier households three times more likely to shop for the holidays using their mobile devices, according to a survey of 1,400 consumers in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The survey, commissioned by security and compliance management solutions specialist Tripwire and conducted by Dimensional Research and OnePoll, found the vast majority–91 percent of U.S. consumers and 83 percent of U.K. respondents—believe that shopping on a computer provides more security than shopping on a mobile phone.
