Enterprise file sync and share (EFSS) specialist Syncplicity announced a series of product enhancements that extend enterprises’ sharing and collaboration capabilities to include a trusted network of partners and customers.

The company helps enterprise users to seamlessly and securely share files and folders with trusted organizations, while maintaining control over the digital data flowing between them and avoiding data leakage to non-trusted entities.

These features leverage Syncplicity’s granular group-based policy engine, making it possible for organizations to put controls on how data is shared within their digital enterprise ecosystem.

Administrators can give select groups of users affiliate sharing privileges or remove users based on their role and department within the organization.

The new policies could alleviate the concerns security-conscious enterprises have about enabling external sharing by creating an extension to their internal network—a digital ecosystem of trust and data control.

“In the new digital workplace, users are working at an increasingly faster pace, from more locations—like offices, homes, airports, planes, coffee shops—and using more devices like tablets, laptops and smartphones interchangeably,” Kevin de Smidt, Syncplicity’s vice president of products and marketing, told eWEEK. “Seamless anywhere, anytime access from any device to all the digital data users need to view and edit is critical to a successful business day.”

Today’s digital workers often are collaborating across a number of different teams with whom they need to share and collaborate on document preparation, review, iteration and final approval, he said.

“These teams often include internal and external stakeholders, from employees, customers, partners and affiliates, to contractors, lawyers and public relations firms,” he said.

The platform gives businesses the ability to leverage new folder re-sharing rights controls to override companywide and group-based external-sharing policies to ensure that users who are approved to share externally cannot expose specific confidential information.

“The accelerating demand for access to the digital workplace by modern workers is placing pressure on enterprise IT to deliver solutions that meet the consumer-grade desktop, browser-based and mobile app experience users expect,” de Smidt said. “In the absence of a great user experience, many people are quick to adopt shadow IT systems, such as Dropbox, where the organization has no visibility or control over where content goes or over the security of the service.”

With that in mind, Syncplicity focuses on providing an excellent mobile user experience with features including sheet-based navigation for easily swiping back and forth through complex folder hierarchies, easy and secure sharing of large files and folders while on the go, and viewing, annotating and editing Office and PDF documents right within the Syncplicity mobile app.
