Man and Machine

Man and Machine

The LaCie Blade Runner is more than just a beautifully designed hard drive—it’s a creation by world famous designer Philippe Starck that represents the combination of human and machine.

Bubble in a Box

The appliance’s sharp, cage-like enclosure surrounds an almost anthropomorphic, liquid metal interior.

Crossing Over

3

Starck’s signature cross symbol appears as an LED power button on the front of the LaCie Blade Runner—glowing orange when the drive is powered on, or green when the drive is in Eco Mode.

Smooth Moves

4

With only 9,999 produced, the LaCie Blade Runner is a limited edition hard drive for design-conscience consumers, with each unit custom-built to ensure superb form and function.

Radiating

5

The radiator design rapidly dissipates heat to help boost performance and ensure long-term reliability.

Running Blades

6

The dichotomy was inspired by a cyber-future illustrated in the 1982 movie “Blade Runner,” and begs the question—just how much control do we have over technology?

Going Fast

7

The limited edition hard drive, which retails for $299.99, is only available in a 4TB capacity and is backed by a 2-year limited warranty. It is currently out of stock.

Style and Substance

8

The Blade Runner is equipped with 10GB of complimentary Wuala Secure Cloud Storage and user-friendly backup software.

Starck Design

9

Twenty years after LaCie’s first collaboration with Philippe Starck, which resulted in the award-winning “Toaster” hard drives, the partnership continues to develop products that are as functional as they are stunning.

Form Follows Function

10

“In my design nothing is useless—style, symbolism or functionality,” Starck explained. “In the Blade Runner, the warm interior electronics are encased in a mystifying shell, and the blades are the radiator that cools it down. The suspension gives space for air to circulate around the hard drive, and the metal material increases the temperature conduction.”
