Online retailer Amazon.com late last month announced it had its busiest season to date, setting a single-day record with more than 2.1 million units ordered.

Among the highlights, Amazon officials announced that on its peak day this season, Amazon shipped more than 1 million packages worldwide and that more than 70,000 gift certificates were ordered Dec. 24 and delivered via e-mail in time for Christmas. In addition, the company extended order deadlines for Christmas delivery. The last order placed in time for Christmas delivery was at 11:32 a.m. PST Dec. 23.
