Wi-Lan Inc., based in Alberta, Canada, recently acquired 17 U.S. patents and patent applications in its plans to produce what it calls the first WiMax certified system. Wi-Lan will pay about $3.9 million in cash and $3.6 million in shares to an undisclosed seller under the terms of the deal.
