Data center power and cooling hardware supplier APC on Dec. 7 introduced “smart” enhancements to its InfraStruxure Management Software package that the company claims identifies opportunities for savings on power and cooling.
The updated APC data center package, released for general availability on Dec. 7, includes conventional monitoring and control of power, cooling, security and environment. But it also offers information such as predictive simulation and stranded capacity, equipment age and health, current and historic power usage effectiveness (PUE), [and] energy use and costs, APC said.
The software suite, which features a Web-based administration console, reduces multiple log-ins and brings a new view into the workings of the data center, including preset and customizable map views, trending reports, physical views and location-based drill-downs.

The vendor-neutral portfolio includes several new features called InfraStruxure Energy Efficiency, InfraStruxure Operations, InfraStruxure Central 6.0, InfraStruxure Capacity 6.0 and InfraStruxure Mobile 6.0, and integrates and communicates with leading building, enterprise and network management systems through open standards.
The package includes a full SDK (Software Developers Kit) to custom integrate with other systems, the company said.
“With energy costs rising for most organizations, it is vital for executives to employ the appropriate tools and techniques to help manage the energy cost curve,” said Rakesh Kumar, research vice president for Gartner.
“Having access to analytics and metrics into areas including current and historical power usage values and which subsystem draws the most costs, organizations are able to fully [understand] how to improve energy efficiency and control costs across the board.”
APC is a wholly owned subsidiary of the multinational Schneider Electric. For more information, go here.
