So, the third time was indeed the charm.
After two false starts, Apple finally made iOS 4.2 available on November 22, beating its self-imposed deadline by over a week. But between this software update and Black Friday looming on the other side of the Great American Tryptophan Festival, I wouldn’t want to be working in an Apple retail store this week.
The new release adds AirPlay wireless media services and the AirPrint wireless printing service to the iPhone’s arsenal; this release brings iOS 4’s features to the iPad, including multitasking and folder-based application organizing tools. I’ll be filing a first-look review before I knock off for the Thanksgiving holiday, and as long as Tuesday’s deliveries include the HP LaserJet Pro M1536DNF multifunction printer, I’ll be able to include an evaluation of AirPrint in my initial kick of the tires.
