The most recent desktop environment from the GNOME Project brings in Eazels Nautilus as its default graphical shell and adds a variety of usability enhancements. However, sites that are new to Linux will likely have a better experience with KDE.

SHORT-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // GNOME 1.4 presents a major installation headache, so most sites should wait to install it until Ximian releases its own GNOME 1.4 distribution.

LONG-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // Beginning with version 2.0, GNOME will be the default desktop environment for Solaris and HP-UX, making it the most common face of Unix and seeding GNOME throughout the enterprise.

Provides feedback during application launch; includes Nautilus file manager.
