Network and direct-attached storage maker Buffalo Technology Jan. 6 released a new line of relatively low-cost, terabyte-capacity desktop and rack-mount network storage drives at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Buffalo’s TeraStation Pro storage packages, aimed at small and midsize businesses and home offices, are comprised of the TeraStation Pro Duo, Pro Quad, Pro Rackmount, Pro 6 and Pro 8 units.
The biggest differences in the new products compared with previous generations are the inclusion of Intel’s Atom D510 dual-core processors, USB 3.0 connectivity and several new business-class features.
Austin, Texas-based Buffalo said it has optimized its SMB software suite to take the best advantage of the speed and power of the new chips.
The TeraStation Pro packages also feature Active Directory support, disk quota support, data replication with device failover, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, hot-swap hard drives and 10 licenses of NovaBACKUP Business Essentials software-enough to constitute a entire office backup package that includes PCs and servers, Buffalo said.
TeraStation Pro packages can scale from 4TB up to a maximum capacity of 24TB.
The TeraStation Pro 8, which features eight bays of storage with RAID 6 (with support for RAID 0/1/5/10 modes), will become available in February at $3,000 for the 8TB version, $5,000 for the 16TB edition and $6,500 for the 24TB package.
TeraStation units are also available in six-bay, four-bay and two-bay configurations, ranging from 12TB to 4 TB in capacity and from $5,000 to $800 in price.
More information on the TeraStation line is available on the Buffalo Web site.
