CA to Acquire Orchestria for Data Loss Prevention Technology

CA officials announced today the company is making its third security acquisition in as many months with the purchase of the Orchestria Corporation.

The deal combines CA’s identity and access management portfolio with Orchestria’s DLP (data loss prevention) technology with the goal of helping organizations control access to data and set policies on its use based on a user’s identity and role.

“With this acquisition, CA will deliver one of the broadest and most advanced information security solutions in the market today and address the demand for a new generation of identity and access management,” said Dave Hansen, corporate senior vice president and general manager, CA Security Management, in a statement. “We are continuing our aggressive plan to deliver to our customers a comprehensive solution for identity and access management to help meet their security, compliance and privacy needs.”

This marks the third security-related acquisition CA has made in the past three months as part of its strategy to deliver integrated, end-to-end identity and access management-related technologies for its customers. The company agreed to acquire identity management vendors IDFocus and Eurekify in October and November, respectively.

In the case of Orchestria, CA is making a play into an already crowded DLP market that saw several high profile acquisitions in 2007 and 2008. According to CA, Orchestria’s technology is deployed in more than 33 countries and analyzes, protects and controls more than 100 million electronic actions every day.

The deal – made for an undisclosed sum – is expected to close by the end of the month. CA officials said the company plans to keep nearly all of Orchestria’s employees.
