James Gosling, known as the Father of Java, has decided to leave Oracle, tendering his resignation on April 2 and letting the world know about it in a blog post on April 9. Gosling started up the effort that eventually became Java in the early '90s and Sun Microsystems introduced the innovative Java technology in 1995. Gosling has since been the face of the Java language and Java platform, appearing at the annual JavaOne events as the avuncular champion of the technology. Now that Sun is part of Oracle, some of the prominent denizens of Sun have begun to leave, and Gosling by far is the most prominent.
