nGenx, which makes hosted application and desktop products for enterprises, is looking to bring its offerings to a whole new market with the nFinity SMB Edition, a virtual desktop product specifically designed for small and midsized businesses (SMBs).

The nFinity SMB Edition, which the company officially announced Oct. 2, offers smaller businesses access to a range of must-have applications for their businesses, including QuickBooks. In addition, the product offers a number of plug-ins for Microsoft offerings, including Windows 7, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Exchange email.

In addition to QuickBooks, Office and Exchange, businesses can choose a bundled option, which also includes accounting and reporting application Qvinci, file storage and sharing application SmartVault, and dozens of other applications.

For smaller businesses dealing with issues ranging from employees bringing their own devices into the workplace to recovering data in the face of a disaster, storing and managing data in the cloud can have some direct benefits. A hosted desktop, such as the nFinity product, allows the IT department to control the data while giving employees the access they need. In addition, it provides needed backup since the data is then stored in a cloud environment.

For example, the nFinity product provides professionally managed data backup in case of a disaster, allowing small businesses to accesses their data remotely and securely. All data is stored in the nGenx data centers, each approximately 100 miles apart, and are all connected by a fiber-optic network. For the past six years, each nGenx data center that hosts applications, data and desktops has been SAS 70, Type II and SSAE 16 certified, according to nGenx.

nGenx also works with strategic partners, including Microsoft, Citrix, VMware and others, to develop hosted IT applications provided through the cloud.

“nFinity Desktop SMB Edition is unlike anything else on the market today. We allow SMBs to get the benefits of cloud computing without leaving familiar and productive applications like QuickBooks and Office by making them work seamlessly on a PC, Mac, iPad or Android device while their data is stored securely in our cloud,” nGenx CEO Robert Bye said in a statement. “SMBs see that larger competitors are taking advantage of tablets and smartphones, and they want a cost-effective and secure solution that will enable workspace mobility and bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies. Our new offering targets SMBs who want to increase agility and improve efficiency but don’t have the depth of technology expertise required to meet that challenge.”

The release follows the September debut of the nFinity Partner Program, which provides support, services and products, including a comprehensive training program to equip nGenx Partners with marketing, sales, provisioning and support tools and a Web-based provisioning system that provides partners with control over their cloud service offerings. In addition, each nGenx partner is assigned an account manager to offer sales engineering assistance, and the company said it has plans to roll various marketing campaign services to channel partners in the near future.
