BOSTON—Red Hat today announced a new mobile-development technology and partnership with Samsung at the Red Hat Summit here.

Samsung is one of the world’s leading mobile vendors and the new partnership will bring the Red Hat Mobile Application Platform and developer tools to Samsung’s customers. In a video interview with eWEEK, Robin Bienfait, chief enterprise innovation officer at Samsung, and Craig Muzilla, senior vice president, Application Platforms Product Group at Red Hat, discuss what the new partnership is about and how it could change the enteprise mobile app landscape.

Red Hat and Samsung will be providing solutions together, Muzilla said.

“Samsung will be providing devices and services for the enterprise,” Muzilla said. “We’re providing the strength of our portfolio and a new product we just announced, called Red Hat Mobile Application Platform, which helps to build the back-end services and capabilities for host apps.”

The Red Hat Mobile Application Platform is based partly on technology the company gained from the September 2014 acquisition of mobile tools vendor FeedHenry.

Samsung’s business customers have been asking for help getting apps deployed in the enterprise, Bienfait said.
