Samsung's recently launched Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is a follow-up to the company's popular tablet products. The design is similar to that of the Galaxy Note 10.1, but it comes without that device's stylus, making it a slightly more compelling option for those who aren't so keen on the idea of using a stylus with products designed for the fingers. Samsung is promoting the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 as the best alternative to just about every Android-based device on the market. And by that measure, the tablet is extremely attractive. With its 10.1-inch screen, support for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and an extremely thin, lightweight design, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is a fine option for any would-be tablet owner. It's fine that the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is not an iPad. And for people who don't like Apple, it's hard to find a better tablet than the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. Here, eWEEK examines the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and explains why, despite its imperfections, the device is a worthy purchase for both consumers and Android fans.

1 - Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Is Worth Buying: 10 Reasons Why
  • Samsung's Products Hold Up

Looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tabs of old, one thing sticks out: The company's tablets tend to hold up over the long haul. In fact, the devices that launched two years ago are still in use today. And last year's models are still some of the top products on the market. The Galaxy Tab 3 promises similar lasting power.

  • In Android, the Competition Isn't Fierce

Looking around the Android tablet market, it's hard to find many products that are truly better than the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. There are several products with big displays, but they don't come with the nice design, the Samsung software and all the extras that matter to Android tablet buyers.
3 - In Android, the Competition Isn't Fierce
  • The Display Is an Impressive Upgrade

The 10.1-inch screen in the Galaxy Tab 3 is outstanding. The tablet has incredible color reproduction and by nearly all measures, can stand up to Apple's Retina display. Best of all, it's notably better than just about every competing high-definition display in the tablet market.
4 - The Display Is an Impressive Upgrade
  • Extra Storage Expansion Is a Welcome Feature

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 comes with the ability for users to expand their internal storage by up to 64GB with the help of an SD card. Considering how much video and audio is being put onto tablets nowadays, that's extremely important.

  • The Price Is Right

Samsung has decided to price the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 at $399, making it one of the best values in the market. Considering the tablet has several high-end features, including a big display and 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity, a starting price that's $100 cheaper than the entry-level iPad is awfully nice.
6 - The Price Is Right
  • The Latest Connectivity Options

The Galaxy Tab 3's starting price is perhaps all the more surprising when one considers that Samsung didn't go cheap on connectivity. Quite the contrary, the company offers Bluetooth 4.0—the latest version of that spec—as well as wireless-N for WiFi and 4G LTE when going mobile. What's not to like about that?
7 - The Latest Connectivity Options
  • A Slim, Lightweight Design Stands Above the Crowd

The Galaxy Tab 3's design is second to none in the Android tablet market. The device is just 8.6mm thick and weighs only 565 grams, making it extremely easy to carry around town. It's quite surprising that Samsung has been able to bundle so much into such a small frame.

  • Samsung's Specialized Software Is Top-Notch

Although the tablet runs Android 4.2, Samsung always puts its own Android operating system flavor into its products. That's a huge benefit for customers, considering the Samsung software works so well. Samsung's Android skin maximizes productivity while delivering a streamlined look and feel. It's a great option.
    9 - Samsung's Specialized Software Is Top-Notch
  • Full Access to Just About Everything

In addition to its own operating system skin, Samsung delivers all kinds of extras to customers who buy its Galaxy Tab 3. In fact, the device supports the company's Samsung Apps platform, as well as Samsung's music services, its ebooks platform, and more. Just about everything is at the company's fingertips with the Galaxy Tab 3.

  • You're An Apple-Hater

If Android owners aren't already convinced they should pick up the Galaxy Tab 3, perhaps this one will put them over the edge: They can't stand Apple. Samsung's tablet is not meant to be an iPad killer. Quite the contrary, the tablet is designed for Android customers who can't stand the thought of using an iPad. Is Apple's tablet a better product? Sure. But for anti-Apple folks, it's hard to find a better tablet than the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.

But decided the money was better spent on a used Note 2 10.1. No regrets...

How about the speakers the sound does not seem as loud on the Tab 3. And can you send emails to your e printer and not get the message that it can't find a Samsung printer ?

Another review without facts when it comes to comparing a non-Apple product with and Apple one (the iPad in this case). Don says "Is Apple's tablet a better product? Sure", and the justifications for this statement are? Also, for @TomL claiming that the recharging of the Tab 2 (don't know about 1, I never had one) is 7% at best, you must have the wrong charger! My Tab 2 10.1 charges fully in about 4 hours, at worst! Comparing the Tab's features and value, I don't see how you would even think about buying the iPad.

@vasman "Comparing the Tab's features and value, I don't see how you would even think about buying the iPad" If security is a factor in evaluating devices then there's one reason to think about the iPad.
