Many security certifications have gained significant value over the past 3 to 6 months, and there are a number that will continue to be considered hot skills for the rest of the year and beyond, said David Foote, CEO and chief research analyst of IT analyst group Foote Partners in a recent BankInfoSecurity podcast.

If you are looking for solid info on direction and job opportunities in technology in 2010, you should absolutely listen to this podcast.

Foote is clear about one thing: Jobs are more scarce and volatile than job boards and vendors would have you believe. But he’s quick to point out the value of certifications and the spectrum of skills-based opportunities in technology, particularly in security.

Some of the “hot” certifications he mentions include:

  • Security Essentials from SANS Institute
  • Security Audit from SANS Institute
  • Checkpoint Expert
  • Checkpoint Administrator
  • CISA from ISACA
  • CERT Incident Handler
  • Forensics from InfoSec Institute

Wireless security, managed security services, cloud computing security and contract work are also discussed.
