Cabinet two holds permanent equipment (bottom) and new products (top).

The latest addition to eWEEK Labs in San Francisco spun up yesterday, creating a home for our latest server hardware and setting the stage for "what's next" exploration of the cloud.

Our downtown testing and studio space now has a VMware vSphere 4.1 "pretty permanent" testing infrastructure in cabinet one and an in-and-out testing space in cabinet two that plays host to equipment that is here only long enough for review.

So far we also have one bench set up as a thin client test area for further exploring virtual desktop implementations and a laptop and mobile bench for testing the plethora of portable computing systems that come through the lab. There's plenty of room, power and data capacity for our physical systems tests.

Now that the boxes have been recycled and the odd-and-ends have been stowed at our new digs at 49 Stevenson Street the business at hand is turning out more product reviews and commentary for you, our enterprise IT visitors.

Along with looking at the physical systems that make up the bread-and-butter of traditional IT, our new facility makes it easier for us to explore cloud-based offerings as well. We've significantly streamlined and fattened the pipes connecting us to the outside world. We intend to use these resources to extend our hands-on product testing to the ethereal world outside the physical confines of our otherwise very ordinary office.
