In the span of three and half years, Gus Robertson has helped lead NGINX to have one of the most deployed technologies on the planet. NGINX’s primary technology is its namesake open-source Web server platform and the commercially supported NGINX Plus platform that first debuted in 2013. Now NGINX is moving to a new stage of its evolution with an open beta for its Amplify service, which provides monitoring and diagnostic capabilities.

In video interview with eWEEK, Robertson discusses the new Amplify beta and hints at some security innovations to come in the NGINX product lineup. Overall, from both a technology and a business perspective, Robertson has many reasons to be optimistic.

“Our business is growing 300 percent year over year, and we now have around 1,000 commercial customers,” Robertston said. “One hundred sixty million sites globally use NGINX.”

Looking forward, Robertson hinted at some security news set to debut at the NGINX conference in September. Those new security capabilities will include both additional hardening of the NGINX platform as well as a new security feature that will bring a modern Web application firewall to NGINX.

“We are working more around security, and you’ll see more security capabilities coming into our offerings,” Robertson said.
