The Pro 8000-Series printers are designed to deliver color printing with low intervention for small businesses and corporate workgroups.

Business imaging solutions specialist Epson America announced the expansion of its portfolio of workgroup printers with its two A3 printing solutions powered by PrecisionCore technology, the WorkForce Pro WF-8590 and WF-8090.

The Pro 8000-Series printers are designed to deliver color printing with low intervention for small to medium-size businesses (SMBs) and corporate workgroups.

WorkForce Pro 8000-Series features include drivers and utilities such as a universal printer driver, PCL and PostScript 3 support and security features including PIN number certification for job release and user control access.

Printer and network settings can be made through Web configuration with the printer’s IP address, and other security features include secure sockets layer (SSL) and transport socket layer (TLS) security, as well as Internet Protocol Security (IPsec), a protocol suite for securing Internet Protocol (IP) communications by authenticating and encrypting each IP packet of a communication session.

"Epson printers are designed to address secure printing and also integrate seamlessly into network printing environments from small to large organizations," Larry Trevarthen, director of business imaging for Epson America, told eWeek. "As companies seek to manage costs and use more centralized printing devices, versus desktop devices, end-users who require secure printing need solutions with functionality that allows print jobs to be completed only after they identify themselves to the printer, so other end users are unable to collect the print job."

The Pro 8000-Series features black and color print speeds up to 24 pages per minute (ppm) and a duty cycle of up to 75,000 pages.

With the Pro WF-8590 (multifunction) and WF-8090 (single function) color printers, workgroups can access a variety of media handling functions to print up to 13-inches by 19-inches on a variety of media, including envelopes and labels.

The printers offer cartridges that are able to print or copy up to 7,000 color pages and total paper capacity of up to 1,830 sheets with optional paper trays—features to help small businesses reduce the frequency of supplies replenishment.

Other features include automatic duplexing plus auto media size detection--the WorkForce Pro WF-8590 adds auto two-sided copying, faxing and scanning, including Scan to Cloud, scan to email and Epson Document Capture Pro software.

Built-in connectivity features include Ethernet, USB, wireless b/g/n and Wi-Fi Direct, the ability to print from tablets and smartphones, as well as remote printing and access to the cloud.

"Today's office printers must be flexible enough to print from the variety of business applications that customers are using for their information needs," Trevarthen said. "While 10 years ago a printer could suffice with great PC and network connectivity, today’s office printer must be compatible with web applications, wireless networks, mobile and tablet devices, and cloud services."

He noted that because users interact with information seamlessly across all these touch points and devices, they see the printer as a simple off-ramp to paper.

"Therefore, customers want to be able to convert their information to paper seamlessly from any of these touch points and devices, without the need to bring it back to a PC for local or network printing," he said.

The printer is also enabled for remote printer data collection and is compatible with MPS software solutions from PrintFleet, ECi (FMAudit) and others.

The WorkForce Pro WF-8590 and WF-8090 will be available in January 2015 through the Epson ImageWay Partner Program to channel partners and through authorized commercial channel resellers.
