The acquisition will help the company serve its cloud born customers better with the ability to consume monitoring that aligns with their business.

Hybrid IT monitoring specialist ScienceLogic has acquired AppFirst, a real-time application-aware monitoring and analytics company.

The acquisition included several patented technologies and scale-out data processing capability. Transaction terms were not disclosed.

AppFirst’s technology will enable ScienceLogic to address several additional markets in the IT operations management (ITOM) space and offer a more comprehensive unified hybrid IT monitoring platform on the market, according to the company.

ScienceLogic’s existing and future customers will have deeper visibility into their business-critical services, enabling them to focus on running the business while delivering better, faster services at a lower cost.

In addition, the company noted, the AppFirst technology effectively future-proofs ScienceLogic’s platform, allowing the company to run in the cloud, on-premises or anywhere they need to—a growing need for the company’s managed service provider (MSP) and large enterprise customers.

The acquisition will also help the company better serve its cloud-born customers with monitoring data that aligns with their business.

The AppFirst technology also will give ScienceLogic new scaling capabilities, agent-based applications dependency information, and much deeper business services analytics, according to the company.

"We partnered with AppFirst almost two years ago, our vision was to improve our customer’s visibility into business critical services, so they can deliver higher quality services at a lower cost," Mike Denning, chief operating officer for ScienceLogic, told eWEEK. "AppFirst technology enabled us to do just that. Since then, the cloud market has grown significantly. We are seeing an increasing demand for better support for microservice-based applications, cloud infrastructure and service support, and also massive scale needs by our largest customers."

AppFirst was an obvious choice to help the company with comprehensive real-time monitoring (forensic monitoring) that misses nothing, he said, including short-lived services to application discovery and relationship mapping, backed by a horizontally scale out multi-tenant cloud agnostic architecture.

ScienceLogic plans on releasing a converged platform offering later this year with newly added agent-based analytics and subsecond application data collection alongside ScienceLogic’s existing discovery and performance visibility.

"AppFirst has a powerful agent-based application dependency mapping and monitoring solution, that is small in footprint and runs on any OS, and any cloud. Yes, they have a big data-style platform that can scale to massive networks," Denning said. "We have a powerful platform for everything else, except the agents that are required to get deep application analytics and dependency information. The two solutions are like yin and yang, fitting together perfectly."
