The Station Stops the Presses to Explain a Few Things

The Station wants to apologize to all of his readers. We've been spectacularly inconsistent with our posts for a long while, but that's now changing. We'll still be spectacular, but we'll just add a more consistent news flow to the mix.

We don't need to go into a lot of detail, but there have been some big changes to eWEEK in recent weeks which have cut into our writing and reporting time. We've been focused a bit more on non-storage-related stories. We've added new mobile applications for iPad and Android tablets and iPhones. We're producing more video stories, and we're improving our back-end processes.

But the most prominent change was the Feb. 3 move from our longtime Ziff Davis Enterprise family to a gung-ho new publisher, QuinStreet. This is a profitable, publicly traded publishing and lead-generation/vertical marketing company that looks at publishing with a new-gen perspective. Frankly, it offers resources we didn't have at ZDE, and this represents an opportunity to really help our service develop into an even bigger-time publication.

During the change, we were really gratified to find out how many people read eWEEK on a regular basis and consider it a beloved brand. After all, eWEEK and PC Week have been around for longer than some of you have been alive -- about 30 years. We fielded many questions about what was was going to happen to eWEEK: Would it be the same, are there new people coming aboard, what about Spencer Katt, et cetera. We answered them all, as far as we could tell.

While mergers and acquisitions happen as businesses evolve, these things invariably have pros and cons. Naturally, a number of really good folks were left behind in the transition, and among them colleagues whom we considered friends. That part of the deal really sucked, but there was no way around it. The good news there is that many members of the old eWEEK family are already getting new positions elsewhere.

As we look ahead to 2012 and beyond, eWEEK will be getting a fresh new look and will be reinvigorated with new purpose. Those parts are very, very good.

Just about everything evolves except disposable water bottles, so please continue to stay tuned here at eWEEK as we make changes and keep doing what we do best in the IT business: inform, educate -- and perhaps even entertain -- you, our beloved readers.
