VMware this week announced its OneCloud do-everything IT management platform plus its implementation of OpenStack.

The company also acquired Amsterdam-based Immidio, a virtual desktop software provider. Financial details were not disclosed.

Immidio will enable VMware to offer a full set of tools for workspace environment management. Together with VMware App, a real-time app delivery product and VMware vRealize Operations Manager, the Immidio software will become a key component of VMware’s Horizon portfolio, the company said.

“Customers are looking for a workspace environment management solution that can enable them to dynamically provision users’ applications, settings and persona, based on IT-defined policies,” Sumit Dhawan, VMware senior vice president and general manager of desktop products, wrote in a corporate blog post.

VMware also announced a new VMware Horizon 6 add-on that enables partners and distributors to bundle the solutions together for more efficiency and cost savings.

VMware is partnering with Dell Engineered Solutions to offer the new EVO: RAIL add-on, which leverages Dell’s expertise in x86 systems, management, and hyper-converged infrastructure.

Key benefits of using the combined VMware-Dell package is an ability to scale a virtual desktop infrastructure from 25 to 1,000 seats, plus provide a consistent user experience while simplifying operations, according to VMware.
