Borland Software Corp. on Tuesday announced the release of a new interactive course to teach the deployment and use of Web services using selected Borland products.

The Scotts Valley, Calif. company announced that its “RADical Web Services for e-Business,” a self-paced tutorial series, is available on CD-ROM.

The course includes exercises designed to teach users how to connect applications, business processes, customers, partners, and suppliers, using standard technologies and protocols for Web Services application development, including Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Extensible Markup Language (XML), Web Services Definition Language (WSDL), and Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI).

“Web Services deliver on the promise of the Internet as a platform for quickly and easily connecting customers, partners, and suppliers,” said Simon Thornhill, vice president and general manager of RAD solutions for Borland in a prepared statement. Thornhill described the new CD-based course as the first such interactive training course for Web services. Training is usually done in person or online.

The two Borland products the user is made familiar with in the tutorial are Delphi, which is for rapid application development on the Windows platform, and Kylix, which is for rapid application development on the Linux platform.

“Its just really a more efficient way for developers to learn new technologies and use new products from Borland,” said Borland spokesperson Becky Wood DiSorbo.

“We will soon be following up this e-Learning series as well with Web services on our JBuilder product, which is for rapid application development on the Java platform,” said DiSorbo. Borland also released on Tuesday the Borland Web Services Kit to create and deploy Web Services with the Java and J2EE platform using Borland JBuilder.

The training course was developed in collaboration with Referentia Systems of Honolulu, Hawaii, and is available for $249 at www.shop.borland.com.
