Metcalfe on Yipes Board

Bob Metcalfe, credited as the co-developer of Ethernet, has been named to Yipes Communications advisory board. Yipes is a leading provider of fast Internet access via Ethernet. Metcalfe joins consultant David S. Isenberg, Harvard Business School Professor Clayton Christensen, Telecordia Vice President Robert W. Lucky and former Ziff-Davis President J. Scott Briggs on the board.

Beaming to Earth

Satellite-based content distributor iBeam Communications has filed for Chapter 11 reorganization, and part-owner Williams Communications said it would scoop up the assets for $25 million. Separately, Williams announced a major thrust into the metro market, linking its long-haul network to 80 network access points in 17 cities.

Wireless Conferencing

Norwegian videoconferencing pioneer Tandberg Data has unveiled the first video system designed for a wireless local area network. Using radio frequency technology, wireless LANs receive data over the air, minimizing the need for wired connections.
