In an uncertain world, IBM is atempting to give companies solid footing with the launch of its Business Resiliency Centre (BRC) in Singapore. The facility, essentially a data center, will house equipment that IBM believes will address “uninterrupted systems availability in the e-business-on-demand era.”

Gregg H. Goble, vice president of resiliency services for IBM here, said previously that the nuts and bolts of disaster recovery were present in other data centers.

But with the launch of this facility, strategy, organization, business and IT processes have been put in place to support disaster recovery and business continuity.

Currently, there are 23 such disaster recovery centers in Asia. The new data center already has ten customers, officials said.

Before the official launch, some of them went through a dress rehearsal to test out business continuity. This involved bringing up end-user sites at the BRC premises.

According to an official, relocated sites to the BRC can go live within six hours. However, service level agreements guarantee it within twelve. The center can hold 130 workstations through this relocation service. Other business continuity services by the BRC include infrastructure provisioning, security services provisioning, consulting and high availability services.
