Lantronix is connecting some important cross-platform dots between users, printers and mobile and desktop devices of all kinds.

The Irvine, Calif.-based networking software and hardware company on July 7 unveiled a new version of its xPrintServer Office device that enables enterprise employees to print documents or images wirelessly using iPhones, iPads, Chromebook notebooks or any type of Android smartphone or tablet.

The new xPrintServer Office, is a small, desktop device that plugs directly into a network switch or router and automatically identifies and enables AirPrint and Google Cloud Print on connected printers. This allows users to print wirelessly from iOS and Android devices.

Once installed in an Ethernet network, the plug-and-play xPrintServer automatically discovers and provisions printers without manual setup and without losing the capability to print from Mac OS and Windows PCs, the company said.

With the launch of the latest generation xPrintServer Office, Lantronix said it will discontinue previous iOS versions of the xPrintServer, including the Home and Network editions.

However, Lantronix will continue to offer the xPrintServer Cloud Print edition for users who need to print only from Google Cloud Print-enabled devices, the company said.

The company will provide live demonstrations at the MacIT 2015 conference July 14 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif.

The xPrintServer Office retails for $199.99 and is now available at Amazon.com, Newegg.com, Lantronix.com, and through the company’s network of distribution and reseller partners.
