Retailers Crack Down on Returns

In order to cut down on fraudulent or excessive returns, some retailers are tracking customer return patterns with a database.

The database, operated by the Return Exchange, combines information from retailers on customer returns. When a customer returns an item, the retailer scans the customers drivers license and that information is sent to the Return Exchange. They perform a check on the customer similar to a credit card or check verification and an approval or rejection is issued.

Retailers are generally targeting two types of customers with this system – shoppers who return an item after wearing it and those who falsify receipts.
