Symbol Technologies this week will debut its new ruggedized handheld computer targeted for vertical enterprise users.

The MC3000 is designed for retail and transportation companies, which frequently have diverse uses for handheld computers.

The MC3000 has a 320-by-320-pixel display, which is available in color or monochrome.

It uses an Intel XScale PXA270 processor and runs on the Windows CE operating system. The handheld has 64MB of RAM, and Symbol officials say battery life can last through an average work shift.

Connectivity includes high-speed USB (Universal Serial Bus) and Ethernet as well as optional 802.11b/g WLAN (wireless LAN).

Like Symbols other ruggedized handhelds, the MC3000 has been tested against shock and can withstand multiple 4-foot drops to concrete and 500 1.5-foot tumbles, said officials.

The MC3000 is also compatible with Symbols Mobility Services Platform for enterprise users who want to monitor and manage devices across the enterprise.
