HP Aims New Desktop PC at SMBs

Hewlett-Packard Co. on Wednesday rolled out a desktop PC aimed at small and mid-sized businesses.

The HP Compaq Business Desktop d220 Microtower, powered by Intel Corp.s Pentium 4 or Celeron chips, can come customized or preconfigured, according to the Palo Alto, Calif., company.

Features include three PCI expansion slots, two double-data rate memory slots and five drive bays.

Customized units, which will be available July 7, start at $349, which includes a 2GHz Celeron chip, 128MB of DDR SDRAM and 40GB hard drive. For $499, businesses can get a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 chip.

A preconfigured 2GHz Celeron desktop starts at $429. For $799, features include a 2.4GHz Pentium 4, 40GB hard drive, 512MB of DDR SDRAM, integrated Intel Extreme Graphics, six USB 2.0 ports and Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Preconfigured d220s are available immediately.

The desktop can also run Windows XP Home or MandrakeSoft S.A.s Mandrake Linux 9.1.
