IBM this week released the newest version of its mainframe operating system, z/OS 1.5, which includes software to centralize management of multi-tier security environments. Multi-tier security lets IT administrators give users access to information on a “need to know” basis, which prevents users from accessing unauthorized information or changing the classification status of data. The new operating system and its security management software work with IBMs DB2 Universal Database for z/OS v. 8 on eServer zSeries mainframes to help meet the most stringent security requirements of government agencies and financial institutions, the company said.
