Its no wonder it managers feel snowed under in a blizzard of data. The amount of new information, as measured by the quantity of data on paper, film, and optical and magnetic devices, has more than doubled since 1999, according to a study released last week.
With about 5 million terabytes of new information stored last year worldwide, IT workers face challenges managing their organizations data, commented the studys authors, researchers at the University of California at Berkeley.
About 92 percent of this new data is kept on magnetic storage devices, mostly hard drives.
