Users of EMC Corp. hardware will soon get earlier and certified access to new Veritas Software Corp. management tools, based on an updated partnership.
The deal also means EMC and Veritas can now support each others products, officials said Monday.
For connecting EMCs high-end Symmetrix, midrange Clariion and network-attached Celerra hardware to Veritas File System, Volume Manager and Foundation Suite software, “we can get it interoperable sooner because we dont have to wait for the product to be released” in order to first reverse-engineer it, said Chris Gahagan, senior vice president of storage infrastructure software at Hopkinton, Mass.-based EMC.
The expanded partnership doesnt apply to EMCs Centera object-based storage, for which Veritas, of Mountain View, Calif., doesnt have any software ports, he said.
However, Veritas will get access to select EMC application- and command-line programming interfaces in the future, which will support the evolving CIM/Bluefin management specifications by the end of this year, Gahagan said.
Rather than storage companies translating each others management interfaces or needing to swap interfaces in the first place, CIM/Bluefin acts as a universal language for the products to speak natively.
