Iomegas latest P415 series, released late last year, has the highest-capacity NAS devices Iomega offers.

I tested the $6,000 Windows-powered P415m, which comes with 720GB of storage in a 1U (1.75-inch) rack-mount form factor with four 180GB Fast Ultra ATA-100 hard drives. (The P415 devices run on Microsofts Server Appliance Kit or Unix.) The unit comes with a built-in Gigabit NIC. Iomega offers a Unix-based 415u NAS with similar hardware for $5,500.

The P415m is easy to set up. I used the NAS discovery Utility CD to quickly configure the initial IP settings. Once I gave the unit a static IP address (it also supports DHCP for faster configuration), we used Internet Explorer to log in to the Web administration user interface.

The P415m comes with Iomega Automatic Backup software, which allowed me to back up files from my desktop to the P415 NAS, Iomega Zip drives or standard hard drives.

The P415m offers many management features and Microsoft Active Directory integration, so Windows sites should have no problem implementing it in their domains.
