SGI Expands InfiniteStorage Line with LSI Software

SGI is embarking upon “a global initiative with LSI Corporation to expand its SGI InfiniteStorage products with compelling new configurations powered by LSI,” the company announced May 13.
This expanded relationship will market LSI’s storage-control software in SGI’s hardware through direct and indirect sales forces. SGI makes large-scale clustered computing systems for high-end enterprises.
The resulting SGI InfiniteStorage Select Product line consists of three new storage arrays: the InfiniteStorage 220-SP, 4100-SP and 4600-SP. These became available May 13.
This deal will enable midrange companies with smaller IT systems to sample some of SGI’s wares for the first time, if they choose.
Smaller versions of the new storage arrays can be put to work in midsized systems, and they can be scaled up in size and capacity for large enterprises. The RAID-based storage systems feature “interconnect support for iSCSI, Fibre Channel, InfiniBand and SAS,” SGI said.
SGI also claimed that the new InfiniteStorage arrays are “application-ready for the Oracle Database,” VMware ESX hypervisors, and Microsoft enterprise middleware, including such commonly used applications as SQL Server, Exchange and SharePoint.
The InfiniteStorage systems will be sold through SGI’s Global Channel Network. “The SGI channel Website has been expanded with LSI product information that provides partners a single point of access for comprehensive resources,” SGI said. “LSI will provide training materials and field marketing resources to the SGI channel as part of the expanded relationship.”
