Blade server specialist RLX Technologies Inc. on Monday announced Control Tower 3.0 software, new clustering bundles, a blade bundle partnership for Web hosting uses and a security certification.

RLX, of The Woodlands, Texas, previously outlined a roadmap for applications built on its RLX ServerBlade 800i product that generally focuses on vertical solutions.

Control Tower 3.0s main new feature is a clustering plug-in. The plug-in links to three separate applications, which are RLX Clusterware, MPI Software Technology Inc.s MPI/Pro message pass software, and custom scripts for RLXs own Basic Logical Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) technology for the bioinformatics niche, said company officials.

Besides the plug-in, the new version also has performance monitoring and profiling, flexible software provisioning, blade group management, support for Red Hat Inc.s Linux 7.3 operating system, and various new technical support options.

The RLX Compute Cluster Solution costs $2,185 per blade, with 512 MB of memory and a 20-GB hard drive, and has Clusterware preinstalled. The MPI version costs $2,305, and the BLAST version costs $2,235. The new support services cost 15 percent of the Control Tower blade management installation.

RLX also announced a partnership with Ensim Corp., which specializes in Web hosting automation. Ensims WEBppliance 3.1 for Linux is available preinstalled on the RLX ServerBlade 800i and has four tiers of control panels. A control panel for hosting resellers is new, officials said. The existing control panels are for appliance administrators, site administrators and users.

It also has new localization capabilities, with German and English included, the ability to extend and differentiate brands with custom skins, and optional e-commerce support with for Miva Corp.s Merchant product. Its available immediately starting at $1,599 per blade, up to $12,499.

The company also announced that it now has Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.s Secured by Check Point certification for its virtual private networking and firewall options.

All of the new bundles are available immediately, officials said.
