Ariba Names New CEO

Ariba, a provider of B2B e-commerce software and services, named Larry Mueller as its new CEO and said that he would be joining the board. Mueller was Aribas president and chief operating officer. Former CEO Keith Krach will continue as chairman. Ariba last month said slowing sales would force it to lay off one-third of its work force and scrap plans to buy Agile Software.

CA Defends Accounting

Computer Associates International last week defended its accounting practices in response to a report in the The New York Times that alleged that the company used various “tricks” to overstate its revenue and profit. Sanjay Kumar, CAs CEO, told reporters and analysts that the companys new method of licensing software “provides greater predictability.”

Youve Got E-Books!

AOL Time Warners Time Warner Books last week launched iPublish.com, a digital publishing site that will let “aspiring writers” submit their work to be considered for publication. Before posting, they must review short excerpts by other authors. IPublish editors will decide if submissions should be published as e-books or print-on-demand books.
