To save network administrators trips to the wiring closet—and to save enterprises money—Apcon Inc., of Portland, Ore., has released a physical layer switch that provides automated control of point-to-point connectivity for Ethernet and Fast Ethernet copper networks.

The Apcon 10/100 Ethernet Physical Layer Switch reduces network management costs by enabling remote cable switching via software and by providing network connection information in real time.

The switch includes 16 or 32 RJ-45 ports for linking and configuring multiple devices. As many as 32 switches can be connected via a single serial port interface, allowing administrators to manage numerous physical layer switches from one network connection. The switch starts at $1,995.
