Can you buy a device that provides Internet access, file sharing, printing, e-mail and VPN capabilities for a small business and spend less than $1,000?

Gallantry Technologies hits that low price point with its nifty $999 GallantWeb server appliance, which is simple to use and small enough to fit beneath a desk.

The GallantWeb server has dual Ethernet ports; one plugs into the internal network and the other into a WAN connection.

You can tell its an appliance right away by the LED on the front of the box, which displays the usual helpful disk and CPU utilization information.

The appliance comes with a 633MHz Pentium III processor, 64MB of RAM and a 10GB hard drive with Red Hat Linux (albeit only Version 6.2 and non-user-upgradable) preinstalled.

The administration menus are comprehensive, and I could configure most services in a few steps and enable or disable them with the click of a button. Even the least IT-savvy person should have no trouble setting up this appliance.

More information about the GallantWeb is available at www.gallantry.com.
