Network Appliance Inc., a leader in high-end network-attached storage products, on Tuesday said that first-quarter revenues jumped more than $6 million over last year, to $206.8 million. Revenues for last quarter were $204.9 million.

Net income rose to $18 million for the quarter, up from $4.7 million for the same quarter a year ago.

The announcement is good news for the Sunnyvale, Calif., company, as most players in its industry are making lower profits than a year ago.

“This quarter, Network Appliance continued to expand our business across a solid base of new and existing enterprise customers,” said CEO Dan Warmenhoven.

Warmenhoven said sales of the companys newest product line, NearStore, also picked up, and that the companys NAS Filer products are now fully certified to run Redwood City, Calif.-based Oracle Corp.s clustering technology.

Network Appliance is planning important product launches later this year, including the next generation of its flagship Filers—probably called the F-900 series—as well as products that integrate with Fibre Channel systems through Brocade Communications Systems Inc.s switches, officials have said previously.
