SEOUL, South Korea—Responding to rapidly growing demand here for camcorder phones that can shoot and store video and sound clips, Samsung Electronics this week launched the Anycall SCH-V330, an IMT-2000 mobile phone with built-in camcorder functionality.

The device can shoot and store up to 20 minutes of video clips with sound, which can be played back on a high-quality TFT-LCD display. To shoot clips at 11 frames per second, the user just presses the shutter once.

The Anycall SCH-V330, which features a 300,000-pixel camcorder, is capable not only of recording and storing video clips with audio, but it can also make two-way video conferencing calls and supports video on demand (VOD) or music on demand (MOD) services. The main screen is a TFT-LCD that can reproduce 262,000 color shades; a 256-color organic electro-luminescent (EL) display is placed on the outside.

The phone includes Live Screen and Live Bell features, which allow the user to set their recordings as screen backgrounds or ring tones. A new My List feature lets the user listen to music that can be downloaded from the Internet or a PC. Sound quality is dramatically improved with the new SRS WOW technology. The new model can also filter out junk text messages and send emergency SMS messages in case of accidents.

“Samsung Electronics decided to build a camcorder into our latest mobile phone, based on demand by young people. We have also reinforced our Anycall brand as a leading product in IMT-2000,” said a Samsung spokesman. IMT-2000 is Koreas standard for next-generation wireless service.
