Telecommuting and other remote computing apps are key sources of security anxiety among IT managers. Cylink Corp. says it can help.

The Santa Clara, Calif., company late last month rolled out NetHawk Version 3.0, a VPN (virtual private network) that officials said brings VPN capabilities to desktop and notebook computers. NetHawks client software enables Windows operating systems to secure communications over TCP/IP networks, giving remote computer users the same security through a dial-in remote access device that desktop users get through a LAN or a WAN.

It does so by using the Triple-Data Encryption Standard and IP Security, which support more than 20,000 simultaneous connections.

NetHawk 3.0 is available now at a starting cost of $3,000 to $7,500.
