Advanced Micro Devices on Tuesday announced the Mobile AMD Athlon 4000+ CPU, which will be designed into the new AMILO A1667G notebook from Fujitsu-Siemens, shipping in September to European customers.
The Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 4000+ is priced at $382 in 1,000-unit quantities, and is available worldwide, the company said.
“Since 2003, AMD has been leading the way to pervasive 64-bit mobile computing, offering open-standard AMD64 technology for a diverse range of high-performance mobile PCs,” said Chris Cloran, director of the Mobile Division for AMDs Microprocessor Solutions Sector, in a statement. “The new Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 4000+ provides a foundation for building the fastest, most feature-rich 64-bit notebooks available today.”

Dell Inc. said Tuesday that it has added an optional shock-resistant hard drive on select notebook computers, specifically the Latitude D610 and Dell Precision M20 mobile workstation.
The 30-GB hard drive will be priced as an $129 add-on, although the ruggedized drive will provide a 145 percent upgrade ot the drives shock protection — which, to Dell, means a 145 percent increase in the height above a carpeted floor that a notebook can be dropped and still function.
