Storage leader EMC Corp. will announce a low-end resale deal with computer maker Dell Computer Corp. imminently.

“We fully expected that deal wouldve been announced this week,” said industry analyst Steve Duplessie, of Enterprise Storage Group Inc.

Dell, of Round Rock, Texas, will exploit its wide sales channel to resell EMCs Clarion systems, “which on paper is just stinking brilliant,” said Duplessie, in Milford, Mass.

Officials from EMC, of Hopkinton, Mass., and Dell would not comment, but the advantages to both vendors are large, as long as issues like sales commissions are worked out, Duplessie said.

For Dell, the product will practically sell itself; for EMC, it increases attention for its product and lowers its cost of sales.

The move will be a plus for EMC, which has seen such rivals as IBM, Hitachi Ltd., Compaq Computer Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co. enter into various agreements, all targeting EMCs share of the lucrative high-end data storage mark
